Join 99.7 The Point to support abused children of Kansas City by registering for the CASA SuperHero 5K Run/Walk - Sunday, June 24th at Corporate Woods.  A special nonprofit, CASA appoints volunteer advocates to speak up for children, helping them find safe, permanent homes. Each year close to 4000 children living in the Kansas City Metropolitan area are victims of abuse and neglect. With an overwhelmed child welfare system, the needs and interests of these children can be overlooked. They need someone to speak up for them to ensure their timely placement in safe and permanent homes. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits, trains and supports community volunteers to empower abused and neglected children and give them a chance for a brighter future.  CASA advocates speak within the court system on behalf of children who have been abused and neglected. CASA volunteers are powerful, effective and caring individuals. They play a crucial role in a child's life by monitoring their situation and reporting findings to the court. This helps to ensure better, more informed decisions are made regarding the life of each child.

With over 571 trained advocates and over 46,000 volunteer hours dedicated to children. CASA of Kansas City serves over 1690 children each year. All have a friend and advocate working to ensure their placement in homes with hope for a positive future. In some cases, this means returning to their parents once their safety is assured. In others, it means releasing the child for adoption. In either situation, CASA and our volunteer advocates are focusing on the same goal - to give each child a chance at happiness and the stability they need to thrive.

By combining the efforts of Jackson County CASA and CASA of Johnson & Wyandotte Counties, we have created a fun atmosphere with a 5K run/walk, kids fun run, family-friendly activities, vendors, costume contests and much more!

This year's event will be held at Corporate Woods in Overland Park, Kansas. The CASA SuperHero 5K Run/Walk will support both Kansas City - area CASA programs.
