Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Separate 8 Months After Getting Married

August 11, 2019

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have split less than a year after getting married, a rep for Cyrus told People on Saturday.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate,” the rep told the publication in a statement. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

Rumors of the split were sparked on Saturday when Cyrus posted a photo of herself on Instagram in which she was not wearing a wedding ring.

Cyrus captioned the post, “Mute me if you don’t want SPAMMED.” In the photo, the “Mother’s Daughter” singer was seated wearing a black bustier top and a matching pair of black pants.

In the comments, the singer’s sister Brandi Cyrus posted, “Boooooooooooooom!”

The photo was taken while Cyrus was on vacation in Italy with Kaitlynn Carter, whose split from her ex Brody Jenner was confirmed on Aug. 2, after just one year of marriage.

Carter posted a photo of herself and Cyrus on a boat with two friends on Friday. Her ex Jenner commented, “Hot girl summer --.”

She also posted a video of the two friends posing on a boat in sexy swimsuits.

The couple tied the knot after years of commitment in December 2018, during an intimate ceremony at their home in Franklin, Tennessee.

In July, Cyrus commented on the “unique” nature of her marriage, which she felt was “very confusing to people.”

“I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married,” she explained in an interview with Elle. “But my relationship is unique. And I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it.”

She went on to explain that while she was in a heterosexual marriage, she was still attracted to women. “I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women,” she said. “I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word.”

In May, Hemsworth revealed that he saw a lot of babies in his future with Cyrus -- "10, 15, maybe 20" to be exact.

“I’ve been getting married for years now. We’ve been fake married about a billion times,” Hemsworth said of his public relationship with Cyrus, and marriage rumors. When asked if he’s been considering a family of his own for real, he responds, “Yeah, one day, once we don’t have so many dogs.”
